Affordable

Located a few kilometres east of the Hay township in NSW, the Hay Solar Farm developed by CleanPeak Energy was completed in September 2025. The 7.5MW solar system is comprised of over 10,000 solar panels running north to south across the paddock, ground-mounted on a single axis tracking system to follow the daily east-west movement of the sun. The solar farm layout has been carefully designed to protect the environmental aspects of the site, minimise the removal of native vegetation and avoid areas of cultural sensitivity.

In November 2025, a 20Mwh BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) was commissioned on site, allowing for the storage of any excess electricity generated during the day.

Project Highlights

Benefits

Site team gathering highlights local jobs and community benefits at Wangaratta Solar Farm

For Hay

CleanPeak works with local subcontractors and suppliers wherever possible, and have set up a Community Benefits Fund to support local projects, events, and initiatives in Hay across the life of the solar farm.

For the Climate

Once fully operational, the Hay Solar Farm is expected to offset close to 10,000 tonnes of carbon emissions each year, equivalent to taking more than 2,000 fuel-burning cars off the road or powering 3,000 Australian homes.

For the Land

The site has been carefully placed to protect environmental values, minimise native vegetation removal and respect areas of cultural sensitivity, with our Net Positive Biodiversity Action Plan, guiding how the land is enhanced over time.

The Hay Solar Farm is located a few kilometers east of the Hay township which is in the western Riverina region of south-western New South Wales.

The site is well positioned to deliver renewable energy into the surrounding distribution network, while being carefully designed to protect native vegetation and respect areas of cultural sensitivity.

With strong solar exposure across the region, New South Wales is well placed to support reliable large-scale solar generation.

Location

The clean energy generated at the Hay Solar Farm will help power Sydney’s iconic Barangaroo Precinct, advancing its net-zero agenda.‍ ‍
